Free AI certifications
What free usually means—badges, audit-only courses, and trial learning—not waived proctored exams.
“Free AI certification” often means no-cost learning or a digital badge, not a waived proctored exam fee. Read each vendor page before you assume zero total cost.
Common free-or-free-tier patterns
| Pattern | Examples to check |
|---|---|
| Free learning modules | Microsoft Learn, Google Skills, AWS Skill Builder |
| Free badges / literacy | IBM SkillsBuild eligibility pages |
| Audit-only MOOCs | University partners on Coursera/edX (certificate fee separate) |
What usually still costs money
- Proctored certification exams (Google, Microsoft, AWS professional tracks)
- Certificate PDFs on some MOOCs after audit mode
- Renewal or continuing education fees where applicable
Process
- Complete free prep aligned with your role—see Best AI certifications.
- Budget exam fees only after your manager or client names a required credential code.
- Keep completion emails and badge URLs for internal HR; we do not verify credentials for third parties.
